Members, the time truly flies by when you’re having fun. It’s hard to believe that Christmas is right around the corner and we are in the middle of another hunting season. For the most part the weather has been very cooperative and our weekends are filling up fast. If you want to hunt on a weekend be sure to plan ahead and make a reservation. Weekdays remain steady with a field or two still available every day. The fields and cover are in great shape and beginning to freeze solid. Frosty nights have thinned some of the switch grass and it is in prime condition. If heavy snow arrives we are expecting that Pugh and Kennel will suffer the most obvious loss of cover but as of now they are in excellent condition.
Looking forward through the rest of our hunting season we have lots to be excited about. We will soon have some beautiful black pheasants available in a January Special, and lots of opportunities for you to participate in tower shoots. We will temporarily no longer have sporting clays available on Saturdays (5-Stands will remain open) to make room for more hunting, tower shoots, and introduce more shooters to 5-Stand. If you would like to book a private tower shoot you can now do so on a Saturday if you can get a group of 20-30 shooters organized. The Club tower shoots are scheduled and open to registration on the following dates January 14th, February 18th, March 18th, and April 8th. For these shoots lunch is served at 12:30pm followed by the tower shoot at 1:00pm. Participants are welcome to hunt the surrounding fields with their own dogs to pick-up any birds that made it through. Tower shoots cost $170.00/gun including lunch, 10 birds/shooter, and cleaned birds. With a full shoot (they will be full) we will throw 300 birds off the tower making for 2 hours of unbelievable fun! Give us a call and reserve your tower shoot spots today!
Starting next week we will be offering private 5-Stand shooting on Tuesday nights starting at 5:00pm. We would love to introduce more women to the sport will be offering a discounted ladies night special one week a month. If you know anyone who might be interested have them give us a call and we can arrange this for them. Private corporate groups, parties, private lessons and any one else that is interested are all encouraged to join in some Tuesday night fun. Our winter 5-Stand league started last week and there is still time to join. We have space available for single and doubles to join existing teams. Remember members now shoot clays and a discounted rate, take advantage of the savings and get some shooting in!
We have had a few instances of folks entering the property and or hunting on Mondays. The club and entire property is closed to everyone on Mondays. Running dogs, hunting, hiking, fishing, and any other activities are not allowed on Wern Valley property on Mondays. We are also triple shifting all fields all shifts on December 22-30 to allow more availability during the holidays. All fields will remain triple shifted regardless of the number of birds planted. We are also asking member to refrain from scratch hunting on these triple shift dates. All the fields are taken and with the shorter shifts most hunters will be using all the time allotted.
Be sure to check out the new hunting reservations calendar located at www.wernvalley.com. You can use this to see what is booked 3 days out. The calendar should show you the day, time, and field that you are booked for in case you forget, and so you know what to expect when you come. If you believe what you see on the calendar is not accurate please call and let us know. Because the reservation book changes so often we are only showing 3 days out at this time. We hope everyone has a wonderful safe holiday filled with family, friends and fun. Hope to see you here!
